THE BEST EVER USE OF A SONG OVER THE OPENING CREDITS??
It really is a touch of genius to take a fairly obscure track by an even more obscure British band and match it perfectly to what remains one of the greatest TV series of all time.
mp3 : Alabama 3 - Woke Up This Morning (Chosen One Mix)
The Sopranos was a series that often used music to great effect, often over the closing credits. But there is one particular sequence that will always stay in my memory:-
As Tony Soprano suffers another breakdown in the shower, the scene fades to his Uncle giving the order for him to be taken out in a hit. Cue further use of the same bit of music later on in the same episode:-
mp3 : Tindersticks - Tiny Tears (Mark Radcliffe Show, October 1993)
Happy Listening.

The Blind Boys of Alabama - Way Down In The Hole from The Wire season 1 (better than any of the other versions, even Tom Waites).
The Boy With The Arab Strap - B&S, light and airy with a twist, perfect for Teachers.
Nerf Herder's Buffy Theme is perfect, which I don't think was written for the show. The Divine Comedy's 'Father Ted' theme may have been specially written but is also perfect, as is Angelo Baddalimenti's theme from Twin Peaks.
I watched the first three episodes of The Sopranos when it was on, missed one, was determined not to ruin it and have never caught up. I've got in the habit of watching entire runs of shows on my iPod on the train to and from work, and I think this will need to be next.
True Blood's use of the song Bad Things over the opening credits is equally inspired.
OK, it's not the opening credits, but if you get the chance, check out the end credits of "Nurse Jackie" Season 1 Episode 6 with the haunting voice of Patti Griffin singing "When It Don't Come Easy" - spinetingling stuff:
